vendors to make sure they meet your expectations. Don't shop
by price only. If you have one or more low end quotes and
some few high end ones, think about why those quotes are low.
For instance, with DJs you can get a quote for $200 on Craig's
list while getting other quotes ranging from $600 to $3000.
The difference is the quality as well as self value.
With
the $200 Craigslist DJ you could get one like in the picture to
the left. This is a picture of the Father/Bride Dance and
in the background you can see the DJ setup with exposed wiring
draping in front of the table. The equipment isn't
attractive and believe it or not, the DJ is wearing what looks
like a concert T-Shirt.
All wiring should be hidden from view, and the equipment should be more attractive or hidden behind a facade. Professional DJ should proper attire for your wedding. If your wedding is formal, they should at least be wearing a suit, if not a tuxedo.
Now, you may ask about the $3000 DJ. Is his equipment made out of gold? Well, when you talk to some of them they sound like it. $3000 for a DJ is too much, unless it includes at least a dozen uplights, dance floor lighting, videos, extra wireless speakers in the back of the room, a DJ system with a full facade system, a DJ AND a wedding entertainment director/MC. And that is still a little too much, but not by much.
Don't be afraid to ask why they are more expensive, and don't take their word for it. Contact the better business bureau for a free, unbiased report about the vendor. You can even go online to search for a report. You can find out at the bureau if there is a problem with the vendor you are considering.
